This is a perennial that behaves as an excellent grass-like substitute. Beautiful creamy yellow stripes on the margins of the blades provide some brightness and uniqueness to this plant. In the late summer, light purple flowers develop and appear tucked in the foliage. The flower spike is lavender and the plant matures at 18 to 24 inches tall.

This perennial can be evergreen in warmer climates but is the rabbit, deer & drought resistant no matter the location.

Aztec Grass has bright green leaves with golden yellow edges and looks at its best in spring. Purple racemes appear above the arching foliage in autumn.  The leaves droop downwards in winter before the new, luxuriant growth appears in spring.

Berries

The berries are plant seeds that can be used for propagation, but they are not edible. Border grass has a rhizome root system that will cause the plant to spread quickly in the area it was planted, resulting in an increase in the number of berries.

Colors

Aztec Grass offers plenty of colors too. Then in the spring, the plant develops strap-like green or variegated leaves, followed by spikes of blue or white flowers in the summer. And for a fall finale, the faded flowers form pretty blue-black berries.
